He said, 'I love you'
by Ashley J. Muldoon
He said, 'I love you' last night, outside
I was stunned that at last he would confide
He held my hand in the backseat of the car
Although I was drunk, I didn't want to go to far
I told him I had a boyfriend, someone he didn't know
He said 'I love you' and 'I don't want you to go'
He gave me his bracelet to think always of him
I had nothing to give so I gave him my bobbypin
He said, 'I love you' and finally set my heart free
But now I'm so confused, perhaps together we should be
I think I've always loved him but it had never come out
I wanted to tell him the truth, I wanted to shout it out
It was late and I was tired and not thinking to clear
But when he dropped me off I whispered softly in his ear
'I love you'.
