The Cycle Of Love
by Tamara Beryl Latham
The eagle's flying with the dove
They had a most unusual love
Each one cautious, perhaps to trust
Each one conquering their own lust
When times of strife and sorrow fell
Each one lived an endless hell
Smothering continuously
As gilded birds in cages be
Most times he would shout abuse
He thought she of little use
She lived her life in constant fear
While he succumbed to rum and beer
Her stature frail, as she grew old
Thus, she became a harder soul
She stood her ground and would not budge
He lived intent to bear a grudge
And then with sickness, and with age
The dwindling years suppressed their rage
They stood the course and in July
Each one helped the other die
As I reflect on their sad years
My eyes completely fill with tears
Adieu! to unforgiving love
The eagle's flying with the dove
